What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Posted by ELLY ELLY@DELUVIAUSA.COM
Hyaluronic acid is one of the most popular ingredients in skincare today and for good reason. You hear many companies promoting you how amazing it is for your skin. I mean, we can’t blame them; hyaluronic acid is truly an amazing ingredient! You’re probably wondering though, what is it? Let me tell you!
Where does it come from?
Hyaluronic Acid is one of the most exciting ingredients on the market today. It was discovered by Karl Meyer in 1934 and has been successfully used in personal care. Until the 1990s the only method of producing hyaluronic acid was extracting it from rooster combs. With that being said, our Hyaluronic Acid is 100% vegan, derived by the fermentation of yeast. No worries of that here!
Why is it so good for your skin?
Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the cellular matrix of human tissue. When topically applied, hyaluronic acid temporarily boosts the elasticity and hydration of the skin. The protective barrier on the skin soaks in the acid to lock in moisture which gives the skin a youthful appearance.
The surface layer of the skin normally contains 10-20% water, however as we age it can drop to below 10%. Hyaluronic acid comes to the rescue with its unique ability to hold more than 1000 times its weight in water, which is a key factor in allowing the skin to temporarily retain more water.
I know that it can sound a bit crazy to think about your skin retaining that much water but, hyaluronic acid actually adjusts its moisture absorption based on the relative humidity in the air.
All that to say…
We hoped that this helped shed some light as to why hyaluronic acid is such a big player when it comes to the skincare world, and why you should definitely add it to your routine! Moisture is a key component when it comes to giving the skin a more youthful look and hyaluronic acid is just the ingredient to help with that. So, if you are looking for a product to fit those needs, look for one with this acid, like our HydraSkin Facial Serum!
Be smart with your skincare and know what ingredients your skin needs!
